President Obama on Dem election wins: 'This is what happens when the people vote'

President Barack Obama praised last night’s wave of Democratic election victories up and down the ballot, tweeting “this is what happens when the people vote.”

President Obama on Wednesday took to Twitter to celebrate the Democratic victories in Tuesday's elections, saying "This is what happens when the people vote. Congrats Ralph Northam and Phil Murphy."

"This is what happens when the people vote. Congrats Ralph Northam and Phil Murphy NJ," Obama tweeted. "And congratulations to all the victors in state legislative, county and mayors' races. Every office in a democracy counts!"

Ralph Northam easily defeated Ed Gillespie, by nearly 9 points.

Phil Murphy won the New Jersey governor's race. Murphy, a former Goldman Sachs executive and U.S. ambassador to Germany, defeated Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno, who struggled to gain traction in the race.
